Project Background

The Philippines Project team of EWB-USA Philadelphia (formerly EWB-MAP) is working alongside the residents of Apatut to provide a new potable water supply for their community. Apatut is a barangay (village) located within the municipality of Balaoan, of the province La Union. Residents currently obtain water directly from shallow wells. Testing indicates the water from these wells is contaminated and is a contributing factor to the prevalence of diseases typically associated with poor drinking water. The project aims to provide clean and equitably-distributed water to the 800+ Apatut residents and the 300 students at the Apatut Elementary School.
